harper at the museum

A new children’s museum opened late last year in Austin and we finally made our way there. We got there before it opened and there was already a line to get in. Harper was a bit reserved at first, not sure what to make of all the kids. But we found a toddler area where she could run around and climb on things and she loved that. She got more out of the experience at this age than I expected. She didn’t want to leave!

More playing in the park! I rode my bike on the trail to this park with Harper in her trailer and let her run around for a bit. And we had the playground all to ourselves! She loves to point to things when I ask where they are and try to say them (“dass!” is grass.) This girl would swing for hours if we let her.

blue-eyed beauty in the bluebonnets

The Texas Bluebonnets have been in full bloom here so we took advantage of a sunny, but windy Sunday afternoon to take some pictures of Harper. Apparently, it’s a pretty popular thing to do here. The field near our house was chock full of cute families posing for pictures. There were even people posing with their dogs. We rode our bikes down a trail from our house to a nearby park with a big open field of Bluebonnets and by the time we got there, Harper wasn’t in the mood and didn’t feel like sitting by herself in the middle of a field of flowers, but she warmed up after a few minutes and ended up loving it! I think this may become an annual tradition!

monkey in pink sunglasses

Last weekend we hit up the Austin Zoo (thanks to a Groupon) and Harper loved it! She would point to all the animals and, to my surprise, was actually pretty good at finding them in the distance and when they were somewhat hidden. She loved the big cats (there was a big black panther that looked like a giant Margot!) and squawked back at the parrots. Each animal we walked up to, she’d sign and say “mo mo!” and we’d move on to the next animal. She wanted to walk around everywhere herself!

We saw tigers, lions, a panther, deer, goats, pigs, parrots, lemurs, and a peacock who walked right in front of me.

And then the monkey disguised herself as duck with a hat on. But she’s not fooling me!
