big girl slide

We surprised Harper with a playscape in the backyard! She came around the corner of the backyard and got a huge smile on her face and came running towards her “big girl slide!” She loves it!

trying to photograph a 2-year-old

It was a nice sunny day on Saturday after a long string of gloomy cold days, so I thought it’d be nice to put a cute dress on Harper and take some pictures outside.

Well, girlfriend was too happy to be outside running around to stand still for a picture. Between the wind and getting my settings right and trying to stay in front of her and getting her to listen, I was exhausted after five minutes.

She was taking advantage of the fact that pregnant mama can’t run as fast as she can.

Once in a while she would run towards me…and basically run right into me and knock me over with a hug.

At least I got this “ethereal” shot! (ahem, out of focus)

And then there was the ten minutes she spent trying to climb into the mailbox. “Mommy, I hiding!”

Then I had an idea. Maybe if I made her stand next to a tree and physically hold on to it, she’d stand still long enough!

It worked!!

She’s a goofball, but I love her.

I was so looking forward to having two weeks off with Harper and enjoying the holidays, but I spent the entire two weeks with the worst cold of my life (turned sinus infection.) I was miserable! Even though we didn’t really leave the house and I spent most of my time on the couch or with my face buried in tissues, I loved seeing Harper get excited about Christmas and Santa Claus.

She loved decorating the tree and turning the lights on every morning when she woke up.

We baked cookies for Santa – she liked the cookie cutters and the sprinkles best.

She loved her Christmas dress and Christmas jammies and all the decorations around the house (including the candy dish.)

She was so tickled that Santa actually ate his cookies and drank his milk while she was sleeping. And the reindeer ate the carrot we left outside! She talked about it for days afterwards.

On Christmas morning, she immediately spotted the Dumbo that Santa brought her. Between gifts from us, Santa and family, this was one spoiled little girl. We will really have to set some rules for next year! She really got the hang of opening presents and we only had to remind her a few times to keep going! More presents to open! It only took us two hours to get through them all, while taking breaks to eat and play.

My mom made her a princess blanket, which was an instant hit.

And Daddy got both his kids new Fulham kits. Harper was psyched to have a jersey just like Daddy.

The next day, Drew’s mom came for a few days to visit and then my dad came for a few days. It was great to have some family for the holidays, even though we were quite boring hosts.

I wish I had taken more pictures, but I did manage to get our annual santa hat picture.

Thank you to all our family for the wonderful gifts – we felt very loved! I managed to feel well enough to go back to work on January 5th, just in time. Now that the holidays are done, I’ll be in full baby mode finishing the nursery and preparing for maternity leave from work. We’re looking forward to more visitors when baby brother arrives. Now, to find the energy to take down the Christmas decorations.
