Family Reunion 2015

A few weeks ago, my final week of maternity leave, we flew to Missouri for Drew’s family reunion. Traveling with two small kids is HARD. WORK. I knew it would be, so I spent at least a month strategizing and it took me 7 days to pack. But it was all worth it to see everyone (and I’m talking lots and lots and lots of people), see Harper having the time of her life, and have everyone meet Finn. And eat Grandma’s fresh garden veggies.

Drew’s grandparents graciously hosted us, along with his siblings and their boys. So Gram had all her children and grandchildren under the same roof.

Harper had fun with her cousin Uly, swimming, and playing with all the big kids at the reunion. Finn had fun being kissed and held by everyone and smiling at all the other babies. I wish I could have taken more pictures, but my hands were literally full pretty much the entire time.

This pictures is blurry but I love Harper’s face. She watched all the kids go down the slide and finally got the courage to go down (holding Daddy’s hand.)

This picture was right after she asked me if the mud puddle behind her was chocolate. LOL

Easter 2015

Easter weekend started out with Gram and Toddy visiting to meet Finnegan. Harper had an Easter egg hunt at school, so Drew, Gram and Toddy went and Tod snapped these pictures.

Then on Easter morning, the Easter bunny left goodies in the kids’ baskets! Finn was too sleepy to notice.

But Harper loved all her goodies!

It was too wet and cool outside to do an egg hunt, so we hid some eggs upstairs in the playroom.

Harper was pretty excited about all the candy.

Our first holiday as a family of four!

We surprised Harper with a playscape in the backyard! She came around the corner of the backyard and got a huge smile on her face and came running towards her “big girl slide!” She loves it!

I was so looking forward to having two weeks off with Harper and enjoying the holidays, but I spent the entire two weeks with the worst cold of my life (turned sinus infection.) I was miserable! Even though we didn’t really leave the house and I spent most of my time on the couch or with my face buried in tissues, I loved seeing Harper get excited about Christmas and Santa Claus.

She loved decorating the tree and turning the lights on every morning when she woke up.

We baked cookies for Santa – she liked the cookie cutters and the sprinkles best.

She loved her Christmas dress and Christmas jammies and all the decorations around the house (including the candy dish.)

She was so tickled that Santa actually ate his cookies and drank his milk while she was sleeping. And the reindeer ate the carrot we left outside! She talked about it for days afterwards.

On Christmas morning, she immediately spotted the Dumbo that Santa brought her. Between gifts from us, Santa and family, this was one spoiled little girl. We will really have to set some rules for next year! She really got the hang of opening presents and we only had to remind her a few times to keep going! More presents to open! It only took us two hours to get through them all, while taking breaks to eat and play.

My mom made her a princess blanket, which was an instant hit.

And Daddy got both his kids new Fulham kits. Harper was psyched to have a jersey just like Daddy.

The next day, Drew’s mom came for a few days to visit and then my dad came for a few days. It was great to have some family for the holidays, even though we were quite boring hosts.

Thank you to all our family for the wonderful gifts – we felt very loved! I managed to feel well enough to go back to work on January 5th, just in time. Now that the holidays are done, I’ll be in full baby mode finishing the nursery and preparing for maternity leave from work. We’re looking forward to more visitors when baby brother arrives. Now, to find the energy to take down the Christmas decorations.
